About Us / 47 Daisies History: For us, farming is not an occupation....it is a passion, a calling, and a blur of life, love and aching muscles!! Our farming principles are basic and come from a deep ethical concern for the health of the human population and the earth. Organic or naturally grown is the only way that makes sense.....how can we as a society consciously grow food any other way!! Nurture your body, soul and the earth.....make the world a better place!
”The earth does not belong to us, we belong to the earth.” –Chief Seattle
47 Daisies has been "in the works" for a very long time. It all started as soon as Dylan could have a rational thought...probably somewhere around 1979. Since that time, he has been on a straight track to "the farm" with very few deviations from that path. Along the way, he picked up a wife in Kentucky and a PhD in Wisconsin.
Dylan has extensive experience in farming/gardening/CSAs/farmers markets/etc. due to his life long journey of studying and living it. He grew up on a farm and then started his own CSA at age 17. He also initiated his own Christmas tree farm on his mother's farm at an early age, which was successful..and is still going (taken over years ago by his mom). Dylan has also interned and volunteered on farms across the country. In addition to actual hands on experience, he's probably read every book ever written on farming and gardening...and all things in between. Dylan earned his PhD at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and currently teaches at Unity College.
Harmony has had a life long love of nature, but before meeting Dylan it was more of a love for hiking, camping, animals and lake time. Although her parents had gardens and she grew up around relatives who were experts in gardening, hunting and preserving food, she had never had much of a direct role in these areas. The farm dream very soon became a together dream and Harmony jumped right on the path with Dylan and never looked back.
