About Us / Alba Vineyard History: Alba Estate Vineyard was founded in 1980 on a 93-acre property that used to be a farm. The word Alba means “dawn” in Italian and was named by the Italian man who first started the vineyard. It is located on a hillside in the Musconetcong River Valley. Alba Vineyard is primarily focused on making the following wines: Pinot Noir, Dijon Clone Chardonnay, and Riesling, with minor planting of Gewurztraminer, Cabernet Franc, Barbera, Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc, and Cayuga. The site’s diversity of soils and slopes translates directly into the layers of complex flavors in our grapes and wine. The winery, tasting room, and art gallery are located inside of the old farm’s barn built in 1805 that was later restored. Head winemaker of Alba Vineyard, John Altmaier, is responsible for turning the grapes into wine.Wine tastings are available daily during hours of operation and winery tours are available during the weekends. Local restaurants often provide food to be paired with select wines. Many special events are held at Alba Vineyard as well. These include concerts of a live orchestra, fireworks, as well as any private events such as weddings, birthday parties, etc. These events are held in the open field surrounded by beautiful vistas of grapes and the valley in every direction. All of the grapes grown here are used for wine-making. Most of the wine sold is sold at the store in the winery on the property, as well as some contracts with restaurants and stores. Alba Vineyard’s wine has a unique taste to it because of its unique soil and all other growing conditions as well. Our wine is decorated with numerous awards year after year.
