About Us / American Pastured Poultry Producers' Association History: The American Pastured Poultry Producers' Association (APPPA) was established in 1997 to assist all pastured poultry producers in North America. APPPA is a clearinghouse for innovations and refinements to the pastured poultry model. APPPA offers the opportunity for people to learn and exchange information about raising poultry on pasture.\n\nPastured Poultry is a production system that employs raising chickens directly on pasture. The model has been developed over the last twenty years and allows the birds to receive up to 20% of their feed intake from pasture forage. The birds are moved regularly to fresh pasture, which allows the birds to be raised in a cleaner, healthier environment. Pastured Poultry is raised the old fashioned way; on fresh green pasture and wholesome grain. Processing is often done on the farm in a clean, healthy, sanitary environment. Many customers pick-up their freezer-ready poultry orders at the farm, assuring them a truly farm-fresh product and revitalizing the farmer-consumer relationship; a long lost aspect of our American heritage.\n\nMembership in APPPA brings you: Access to producers, products, and current information on pasturing poultry; Admission to APPPA's annual meeting with workshops on the latest information on pastured poultry issues; Support of member field days and event information tables; Subscription to GRIT!, APPPA's newsletter that is published six times per year. GRIT! contains up-to-date information on current activities in the pastured poultry industry.
