About Us / Atlanta Ethical Eats History: My ethical eating journey began when I first viewed the documentary, Food Inc. I was appalled that this was the reality of our food system and that we treated animals this way. Out of pure shock, I became a vegetarian for a period of time. During that time, I started doing research into farmers that weren't part of the factory farming/big ag industry and who were raising animals they way they should be raised. I slowly started adding meat back into my diet, as long as I sourced it and knew how the animals were being treated. I learned how much healthier it was for me to eat ethically as well - getting rid of all the extra hormones, antibiotics and other chemicals that were in factory farmed meat.
Then, I started to look for others who felt the same way in my community and realized that a lot of people were as ignorant as I was before watching Food Inc. That inspired me to start my blog Atlanta Ethical Eats where I try to educate people on how animals are treated in factory farms, in the dangerous health risks of eating that meat is and where to find ethically raised meat in and around Atlanta. Many people have told me that my blog has made a difference in their eating habits. This year, I volunteered with Georgia Organics to help them out with the logistics of their annual conference as I am an event coordinator by trade. I also am helping to coordinate next year's Southeastern Sustainable Livestock Conference which aims to open the discussion about sustainable agriculture and high animal welfare between farmers, consumers and everyone in between.
