About Us / Border Springs Farm History: Lamb and turkey are Animal Welfare Approved. Mail order or on-farm pick up are available. \n\nBorder Springs Farm is owned and run by Craig Rogers in Patrick Springs, Virginia, with the help of his wife Joan. The two began their sheep farm to train border collies, starting only with a small herd of six Kathadin and Texel sheep. However, today that number has grown to five hundred. Craig always dreamed he would run a farm so the growth of his sheep enterprise seems natural, and he still shows the same enthusiasm as he did when it was all still a hobby.\n\nThe Rogers’ now raise their sheep for wool and meat, selling grassfed lamb at both natural food markets and local restaurants. Chefs in the area especially look to Border Springs not only for its high quality lamb, but also the sustainable farming practices used on the farm. For Craig, animal welfare is added in to that equation. According to Craig, “People have seen images of shepherds and sheep from biblical times on. When they picture that in their minds, they see the sheep grazing happily on a green pastures and that’s the environment at Border Springs.”\n\nJoining Animal Welfare Approved was an easy choice for the Rogers because they already shared the same values that the organization promotes. With the label, Craig is able to showcase that at Border Springs they don’t cut corners in animal husbandry, and that compassion is central to their operations.
