About Us / City Fresh History: City Fresh is a program of the New Agrarian Center. The goal of City Fresh is to build a more just and sustainable local food system in Northeast Ohio, while meeting the needs of both urban and rural communities by improving urban access to fresh, locally grown food and providing marketing opportunities for local farmers.\n\nThe City Fresh program impacts the local food system through the development of neighborhood food centers, nutrition education, urban market garden training, and the cultivation of direct farm to business connections. While we do not insist that the food we source has been grown by farmers with Organic Certification, we do work closely with all of our farmers to learn about their practices and motivations, and to ensure they understand ours preferences. Our approach of focusing on relationships instead of regulations has opened many doors, and we are proud to be able to provide more than 90% chemical free or organically certified produce in our shares. All of our food is grown on farms with a biodiverse and richly maintained soil.\n\nCity Fresh includes a wide range of community partners, including: the City of Cleveland Health Department; Heifer International; Ohio Farmers Union; the Great Lakes Brewing Company; MetroHealth System; St. Luke's Foundation; the Clark-Metro Community Development Corporation; the Urban Community School; and the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission.
