About Us / FRR Farm History: Jennifer Myka and her husband Thomas Brackman manage Free Radical Ranch (FRR) Farm, comprising 55 acres of lush green pasture located near the town of Crittenden. On March 2, 2012, the farm house and barn were completely flattened by a devastating tornado, and the family has subsequently relocated approximately one mile from its original location. ”It’s amazing no one on our lane and none of our animals were injured,” says Jennifer. “We were grateful for the help that AWA provided during this very difficult time in the farm’s history.”\nThe Myka family manages a flock of Katahdin sheep, a breed which is easy to care for and, according to Jennifer, “produces superior quality meat with a mild flavor.” She explains that the breed offers many other benefits, including a very high resistance to internal parasites. Being hair sheep (which means they don’t require shearing) the animals are much more suited to the heat and humidity that Kentucky offers than a normal wool breed: “We enjoy not having to shear the sheep but when we do handle them they are very docile, which makes working with then very easy.”\n“We are very proud to be Animal Welfare Approved,” says Jennifer. “We raise our sheep as humanely as possible on a grass and forage diet—no grain ever. Absolutely no hormones or antibiotics are used on the lamb, so AWA was a natural fit for FRR.” The lambs at FRR Farm have free access to pasture and shelter all day long and are protected from coyotes by portable electric mesh fencing. “Our lamb is raised exclusively on pasture with dried hay supplementing their diet in the winter when fresh grass is not available,” Jennifer explains. “Grassfed lamb meat provides many health benefits when compared with conventional meat. We know that grassfed meat offers you more "good" fats, and fewer "bad" fats. It’s also richer in antioxidants; including vitamins E, beta-carotene, and vitamin C.”\nCustomers can purchase their lamb in a variety of cuts and sizes, from whole lamb right down to pounds, and can either collect from the farm or arrange for home delivery. “We ship our meat frozen by overnight delivery on dry ice,” Jennifer explains. “This ensures your lamb will arrive in prime condition.”\nFor more information about FRR Farms, visit www.frrfarm.com.
