About Us / Farm to Table VT History: Farm to Table (FTT) is a year-round service of fresh local foods in Washington County. In short, FTT markets and distributes local farmers' food. The goal of this program is two-fold: ? Provide universal access to the freshest local foods in Central Vermont to all people Supplement food access with the food and nutrition education needed to make the best use of these foods. ? Farm-to-Table originally began as a program called “Beyond Hunger” which received grant funds to pay farmers for food being provided to underserved senior citizens who could not afford fresh food. This food was paid for by grants and delivered by youth. In exchange for receiving free food, the elders agreed to teach the youth a thing or two about traditional food preparation. As the years went on, the demand for fresh local food grew and thus Farm-to-Table was born. Initially Farm-to-Table only distributed food to at-risk populations being served by congregate meals sites. Now, 7 years after its inception, FTT provides food to over 75 sites in Washington County, including food shelves, senior centers, daycares, schools, coops, restaurants, buying clubs, hospitals, colleges and more.
