About Us / HIP Agriculture History: Our journey started with exploring to eat healthy from local farms and food coops to then wanting to share the importance of healthy eating with others. Immediately we realized the connection btwn health of humans to the health of the land. What started with urban gardening and youth education moved into gardening outside the city of SanDiego and continuing to bring children to the farm for nutrition education.
After apprenticing at an organic vegetable farm, La Milpa Organica, we took a leap of faith and moved to Hawaii island with our 1 yr old son to manage a permaculture farm and start a CSA business. Three years of farming vegetables plus exotic fruit and practicing agroforestry concepts within the row cropping, we then started our own farm business HIP Agriculture.
HIP Ag was founded with the foundation we learned and practiced at Uluwehi Farm & Nursery of biodiversity with polyculture gardens. HIP Ag focuses on cultivating many different starch crops and spices, as well as, organic papaya, kava, and a couple jersey dairy cows. The gardens are the classroom for our Living Internship and 2 weeks permaculture intensives.
Our mission is to practice and teach ecologically conscious agriculture, empowering individuals and communities to cultivate alternative systems of living that restore human and environmental health.
