About Us / Hama Hama Shellfish History: Hama Hama® oysters and clams are farmed at the mouth of Washington State's Hamma Hamma River, at the intersection of fresh water and salt, on gravelly beaches created over centuries by winter floods. At lowest tide, the flats extend almost a mile into Hood Canal, a salt-water fjord that forms the eastern boundary of the Olympic Peninsula. The oysters grow slowly in this environment, often taking twice as long to reach marketable size as oysters grown by other farms. The result: spectacular oysters with a distinctively clean, crisp flavor and firm meat.
