About Us / Hickory Grove Farm History: Hickory Grove Farm is a historic family farm located in Shelby County Kentucky. We are transitional organic and should be USDA Organically Certified this spring prior to the beginning of this season. We grow a wide variety of produce and use season extension methods to offer the largest variety of vegetables for the longest amount of time. Not only do we offer vegetables, but we also have farm fresh eggs, pasture raised pork, pasture raised poultry, and pasture raised turkeys.
Today with the rebirth of the idea of knowing where your food comes from people are deciding that other factors should drive food choices instead of simply price. The local food movement is very strong and we are trying to help cultivate this. Most people who get into farming talk about how they feel connected to the land and wanting to get back to a more traditional way of life. For us it's a bit deeper than the average farmer. When we talk about being connected to the land and being good stewards it means a lot more than the average farmer. Our family began farming our current farm in the 1780’s.
Now instead of only growing one type of plant we are growing hundreds. We have also added animals back onto the farm. While we have embraced technology in how we grow and manage the land we have made a decision to use many older breeds of animals and plants. While they do not grow as fast the modern equivalents they taste far better.
