About Us / Janesville Farmers Market, Inc. History: Janesville Farmers Market was started in 2005 to provide an outlet for local farmers, bring fresh food into the heart of Downtown Janesville and bring people to the other Downtown businesses. Since that time, the market has grown to include 30 - 65 vendors each week with a wide variety of local farm products, bakery and prepared foods, local crafters, entertainment, food samples and nutrition education.
The market accepts EBT through a token system. Some vendors accept credit cards and WIC/Senior Vouchers. A partnership with a local food pantry, ECHO, also helps increase access and affordability of local food for low income residents. In 2015 and 2016, the Janesville Farmers Market plans to increase its educational outreach at the market and throughout the community.
Goals of the Janesville Farmers Market:
*To enhance the image of downtown Janesville by providing a vibrant, healthy and broad-based community activity in the heart of downtown.
*To draw attention to downtown retail and recreational opportunities.
*To foster positive social interaction between a cross-section of farmers, the arts community, not-for-profit community groups, community members and visitors.
*To promote a healthy lifestyle by making available a wide variety of quality, fresh produce and farm products.
*To provide an educational forum for consumers to learn the uses and benefits of high-quality, locally grown produce and other agricultural products.
*To present consumers and local farmers an opportunity to interact directly with one another.
*To preserve Wisconsin’s unique agricultural heritage and the historical role farmers’ markets have played in that heritage.
