Grass - Fed
About Us / KW Farms History: We began farming commodity crops in the San Luis Valley in 1990 and introduced grazing livestock for fertility when we transitioned to organic production a few years later. The more we learned about the astonishing merits of pasture-based farming, the more we thought that's what we had to do. Over the years our water supply in the SLV has diminished, which made grass farming much more attractive, since it uses much less water, when properly grazed.
Our greatest challenges were achieving a truly quality product and finding a way to sell it, since there literally was no market for grass finished beef. Over time we have built a regional sales network for buyers' club type delivery and created Sweet Grass Coop, a group of grassfed cattle producers who share the work of establishing production protocols and quality measurement techniques, building forage chains, and serving markets in New Mexico and Colorado.
Today our primary focus is improving soil health and the nutritional value of the food we raise through the miraculous potential of linking communities of microbes, humans, and bovine creatures.
