About Us / Olympia Food Co-op History: The Olympia Food Co-op operates two stores in Olympia, Wash. offering awide selection of natural foods and products to our community. We startedout as a funky, tiny storefront in downtown Olympia in winter of 1977. Thestorefront was the natural outgrowth of the strong network of food buyingclubs in the area. The 1980s brought crazy growth, and what had been a cozylittle co-op became a packed-like-sardines store, and the co-op opened asecond location in 1994. Now, well over a decade later, both stores arethriving. We specialize in organic foods, and both stores feature anextensive selection of produce, bulk foods and dairy products. We alsocarry frozen foods, naturally sweetened treats, gardening and canningsupplies, whole foods cookbooks, mercantile items, magazines, and more. OurEastside store boasts a scrumptious salad bar with hot soups. The co-op ismore than just a place to buy healthy food; we are a community resourcethat practices and promotes nutritional awareness, local farming andproduction, environmental responsibility, social and economic justice, collective management, and consensus decision-making. The purpose of thecooperative is to contribute to the health and well-being of people byproviding wholesome foods and other goods and services, accessible to all.We strive to make human effects on the earth and its inhabitants positiveand renewing, and we encourage economic and social justice.
