About Us / Price Family Farm History: Price Family Farm produces Animal Welfare Approved beef. \n\nDavid Price didn’t intend to make the transition from a middle-school history teacher to a fulltime farmer. After all, he was suburban boy who simply wanted to raise food for his family so that he and his wife would know what their children were eating. But his passion for farming took over and now he farms fulltime to supply his direct-market customers with beef.\n\nKeeping his herd on pasture was a combination of doing what’s right and doing what’s practical. David’s research showed him that a feedlot is not a natural fit for cattle and that it didn’t look like a place he would want his children’s food growing. Cattle on pasture—where they can socialize and forage and do what cattle are meant to do—proved not only to be sustainable for his peace of mind, but for his bank account as well. Pasture-raising his cattle means he doesn’t have to harvest hay, buy a lot of feed, or handle manure. And it produces good wholesome food. It’s easier on the farmer and David can do more with less.\n\nDavid and Lana represent a new generation of farmers—they farm according to organic standards (although they are not certified organic) as well as Animal Welfare Approved standards. Their farming practices make sure that the cattle receive the best care possible. The Prices have found that creating a good environment for their cattle has provided them with a good environment to raise their children, too.
