About Us / Rhodesdale Farm History: As soon as you get Jason Rhodes on the topic of farming, his speech quickens, his voice becomes amplified, and he looks you right in the eye as he declares that he is passionate about what he does. As a first generation farmer, Jason became intrigued with farming in high school and followed his passion to study poultry and swine management at NC State University. His entrepreneurial spirit carried him back to Cleveland County where he now farms 650 acres at the young age of 33 years old. He devotes several hundred acres to soybeans, cattle, and greenhouses. However, he is known best at local markets for his five acres of blueberries, two acres of muscadines, and one acre of asparagus. Jason is undoubtedly a ‘go big or go home’ kind of guy, but he explains that going big has been a process and that his operation has grown with the seasons. Asparagus gives him a bountiful crop for a short period in early spring, blueberries become the focus during the summer months, and muscadines carry him into fall. Jason recently added four acres of peaches to his mix this year, along with a new roadside market in Kings Mountain. Jason notes that while he is the “captain of his ship” he couldn’t manage his fields without the help of his faithful employees. He has hired and mentored several young men over the years who have been integral to his farming operation Look for Jason’s asparagus early in the season at the Foothills Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from 8 am – 12 noon, and at his roadside stand in Kings Mountain.
