About Us / Ross Farm History: Betsy Ross raises Animal Welfare Approved beef cattle on Ross Farm in Granger, TX. At Ross Farm, Betsy believes in the necessity of healthy soil in order to create healthy beef. The farm’s sister company, Liquid Compost Extract, helps farmers increase their soil’s organic matter without using fertilizers herbicides, or insecticides. The philosophy at Ross Farm is that healthy soil means healthy forage, and healthy forage means healthy beef, and healthy beef means happy and healthy families! As Betsy writes, “We want to produce healthy, excellent meats for our family, friends, and customers, to return the land to a balanced state in terms of soil fertility, quality forages, animal health and enhanced quality of our lives.”\n\nCurrently, four herds of cattle, which are moved around at least once a day, are run on the farm. Betsy doesn’t believe in the rodeo system of shouting or stampeding in order to move her herds. Rather she learned from Joel Ham, a protégé of Bud Williams, just how to move the cows, stress-free, to the right place at the right time- a great and hard earned knowledge, she admits.\n\nThe forages on the farm are abundant and numerous, filled with many types of grasses throughout the year. During the warm season, which is about 8-10 months of the year, grasses include Bermudas, Eastern Gamma, San Marcus, Alamo Switchgrass, to name a few. In the cooler season, grasses are oats, clovers, ryes, legumes, and some barely.\n\nThe grasses that the steers eat are truly reflected in their beef. And at Ross Farm, with the attention they give to the health of their soils and variety of the herd’s forage, you know you are getting a product that is superior in nutritional value.\n\nFor more information on products, ordering and the farm, visit www.rossfarm.com.
