About Us / Sea & Smoke History: Located in the heart of Del Mar at Flower Hill with Chef, Matt Gordon, at the helm, Sea & Smoke explores modern and fresh interpretations of American dishes that celebrate simplicity and wholesome integrity. Keeping true to Chef Matt’s principles and commitment to healthful living, Sea & Smoke serves responsibly sourced meats, seafood and vegetables.
Inspired by the simplicity of the wood-fired oven, Sea & Smoke’s menu features unique preparations of a variety of dishes – vegetables, meats and seafoods. A light and airy brasserie-style dining room and sprawling patio space offers an inviting experience for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The warmly lit, low-ceiling bar creates a charming ambiance, where drinks are served with modern twists of classic American cocktails. We also feature live music on Wednesday evenings starting at 7PM in the Bar & Lounge, as well as on Saturday’s and Sunday’s during brunch hours, along with our famous “top your own cinnamon roll bar” and our pour over coffee system!
We are folks who love tasty food and even better service. It is what inspires us every day and keeps us looking to innovate and create memorable experiences. Chef, Matt Gordon, has always wanted to create the type of place that people in his line of work would want to go to. So sometimes we use some “out-there” ingredients and play with stuff you may not have heard of, but it is all in the spirit of fun and good food! What originally started as a chef driven neighborhood casual restaurant has grown into a testing ground for how to do things differently than many restaurants. Matt has been in the industry for years, but realized that an upscale commercial kitchen is still a bastion of artificial or overly processed junk. So he set out on a mission: to create a place where he felt good about the product he serves, down to the most basic ingredients.
