We provide natural, grass fed beef "From Our Family Ranch To Your Family Table." We supply our customers by mail-order and at the ranch by appointment. Our tenderness-tested beef is naturally low fat and low cholesterol because it is from heritage breed Longhorn-cross calves, very heart healthy. We use no hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides on our cattle. We are virtually organic, not certified. Our grass finishing program calls for the calves to be fed on lush growing grasses rather than rangeland for at least the last 3 months, so you benefit from the healthful CLA's (cancer-fighting agent) and Omega 3 fatty acids. We are proud to practice sustainable agriculture. We are certified by the American Grassfed Association. Inquire about field trips for school groups. Gerry and Janelle Shudde raise Longhorn cows and Devon bull mixed cattle on their farm, Shudde Ranch in Sabinal, Texas. Shudde Ranch has been owned and operated by a long line of Shudde's since 1897. Gerry’s grandparents started as beekeepers, planting oats, grains, and vegetables, and surviving off what game they could hunt on the land. Gerry’s father, Emil, converted the farm into a cattle-raising endeavor by digging a stock tank, and the Shudde's never looked back.
The Shudde’s pride themselves on grass being their primary crop, and cattle being their secondary. This is because all of their cattle are grassfed on their pesticide-free grass in order to ensure flavorful, nutritious meat and promote healthy living, something the Shuddes are passionate about. “We use longhorn cattle to harvest the grass,” explains Gerry, “because they convert grass and brush to meat very efficiently.” Consequently, the beef contains less cholesterol, and because the cattle are raised 100% naturally, including without artificial hormones or unnecessary antibiotics, the result is high-quality, great tasting beef. Says Gerry, “We realized we really had something truly special." Thus began Shudde Ranch Beef.
