About Us / Sproutfield History: Centered in Virginia’s Heartland, Sproutfield works with local farmers to grow and deliver pasture raised Berkshire pork, heritage beef, poultry and cheeses. We ensure that our animals are happy and healthy by making sure they have plenty of space, sunlight, and sprouts. We don’t allow confinement pens, sub-therapeutic antibiotics (what does that even mean?!) , growth hormones, or other mystery ingredients in our food. We integrate a sustainable approach to all of the resources we benefit from in our countryside.
Our purebred Berkshire Pork is sourced exclusively from Buckingham Berkshires , a boutique farm dedicated to growing the finest pigs in the shade of the oak forests of Buckingham Virginia. Dr. Lincoln Montgomery-Rodgers D.V.M., a partner in the farm, manages all aspects of the nutrition plan, veterinary care, and coordinates with his partner in growing a sustainable herd of happy pigs.
All pasture raised beef is sourced from three different farms in Buckingham and Amelia County in Central Virginia. We work with farmers who make a priority of growing and finishing their herds in good pasture, and they don't use any extraneous meds. Later this year we will introduce dry-aged beef for select cuts.
Sproutfield meats are humanely processed in USDA inspected facilities and are immediately frozen to ensure that quality is captured in every bite. Lard, cheeses, eggs, and other items are all inspected and approved by USDA certification and contain only the essential ingredients. No artificial preservatives, hydrogenating oils, red dye #40 (or other rainbow synthetics) are allowed anywhere near our foods, because they don’t need it and neither do you.
