About Us / Sugarstone Farm History: We are in the process of transitioning to a grass fed operation. Traditionally we've raised our cattle on pasture and hay with supplemental protein and grain at certain times of year. The 2010 grazing season was our first season without supplemental grain or processed protein tubs. In 2011 we will be building on this start with what we hope will be an even more successful grazing season by using managed intensive grazing. It will be the first year all our cattle will be home on our own pastures, and rotated through a planned system of paddocks. Our cattle are mostly Angus and Simmental crosses, and we will be adding Galloway genetics to our herd in 2011.We also raise heritage breed pigs.American Guinea Hogs have earned top marks on our farm for their ease of keeping and excellent flavor, and we usually have some piglets available as feeders and breeding stock. They are kept in large paddocks throughout the year, with some allowed to roam the farm and forage for most of their food. We hope to be able to offer forage-finished hogs for sale, for the first time, in the fall of 2011.We have a mixed group of poultry that we are working on incorporating into our forage-based system. Narragansett turkeys, American Buff geese, and Delaware chickens have found their homes in our barns and pastures. In 2012 we plan to offer eggs and meat to the public.Visitors are welcome by appointment. Email or call us for more information.
