About Us / TWIN SPRINGS FRUIT FARM History: Twin Springs Fruit Farm started as a small tree fruit farm and began going to markets in the D.C. area, including the surrounding MD and VA counties in 1980. We have branched out into growing a huge array of fruits and vegetables, including year-round greenhouse production of vegetables.
We recently took on a huge project to produce all of the heat for our four greenhouses by burning biomass (wood chips) in a very green, state of the art furnace, replacing the old coal system.
We now attend 18 farmers' markets a week in the summer and 8 of them go through the winter. We grow many crops to keep supplied through the winter months, as well as storing apples in controlled atmosphere rooms to keep them in peak condition.
We raise strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries using the "softest" pest control practices, which are protocols set forth in Integrated Pest Management, as with all of our crops. Peaches, white peaches (35 varieties), nectarines, vine ripened tomatoes, carrots, peas, sweet peppers, onions, potatoes and garlic are our primary summer crops.
Around mid August we begin to harvest the over 30 varieties of apples grown on our farm. Having some of the best fruit ground in the world, here in Adams County PA allows us to raise the best possible crops. Our loyal base of customers in the D.C. area are always saying that we have the best possible fruit. The farm was awarded the D.C. City Paper's "Best of" award for apples a couple of years ago; and we are especially proud of the quality of all of our tree fruit.
Some of the farmers' markets we attend are "Our Own" markets where we are the sole vendor. At these locations we add some of the finest Amish grown vegetables to be found in Pennsylvania, including Joe's sweet corn, the best around! You can find out more about us at our website, as well as looking at our complete market schedule.
We are about to start a solar project which will compliment the biomass project.
