About Us / UnderToe Farm History: UnderToe Farm is a project to serve the local community by supplying high quality, sustainably grown produce while enhancing soil ecology (under our toes). The practice of improving soil quality is the main goal in a sustainable farming system which, in turn, leads to a productive agricultural landscape. We will strive to play an integral role in Northwest Michigan's farmscape by maintaining a healthy agricultural eco-system through best practices. By incorporating a sound soil fertility management program, we will provide our neighbors and friends with healthy, delicious products. There will be an emphasis on education to enhance our community's knowledge of agricultural stewardship and the important role it plays in our lives. Haley Breniser and Adam Brown both have a backround in ecology, conservation, and natural resources management. Upon moving out West in 2010, our direction of conservation steered from natural landscapes to agricultural. While living in the state of Washington (Whidbey Island and Snohomish), we honed our skills working and managing small scale organic farms.
With family roots (and half our hearts) in Michigan, we decided to move back to this wonderful, diverse agricultural state. We are thrilled to have found a beautiful and unique piece of land in Kewadin to start our own sustainable farm. Our goal is to improve soil biodiversity, grow delicious, fresh, seasonal vegetables (and fruit) as well as ethically raised chickens for our neighbors and friends. We also strive to enrich the minds of the younger generation about a sustainable food system.
Needless to say, we feel honored to grow for you. We are excited to be involved in the local food movement of Northwest Michigan. We choose to farm because it is a rewarding, meaningful lifestyle that contributes to our personal growth while also helping others. We hope to meet and feed you very soon.
