About Us / Videnovich Farms History: Old World in the New World. Videnovich Farms delivers high-quality seasonal vegetables, herbs, and fruit directly from the farm fields to the Chicago market. Our specialties include peppers, eggplants, and basil - along with 150 other varieties of fresh produce. We sell wool products in the winter made from our small flock of sheep. * * * The Videnovic family has been farming for generations in Southeast Europe but the aftermath of World War II brought Bozin Videnovich to southwest Michigan, via working in Chicago for a few years, in the early 1960s. The family has kept up the old world food tradition since his death in 1992 with the care and maintenance of the farm's orchards, vineyards, and lots of peppers. LOTS of peppers. The family farm has been growing these peppers for their Chicago family and friends who have limited growing space and continue to preserve family recipes that include pickled peppers and ajvar (a roasted pepper/eggplant relish). * * * Videnovich Farms has been offering a CSA ("Community Supported Agriculture") since 2005 in the form of "subscription farming." Members are able to pre-purchase weekly boxes of seasonal, quality vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. Videnovich Farms grows with old world methods using minimal pesticides and labor-intensive hand weeding instead of chemical herbicides. The small flock of sheep produces a great source of fertilizer as well as the multiple compost piles that contribute to our attempts to create zero-waste (blame it on our frugal mentality). Information on the 2012 CSA deliveries can be found on our Web site: videnovichfarms.com. * * * Our farm produce and wool products can be found at several farmers markets. We do not have a farm stand on the property. We started with the Three Oaks (Michigan) Farmers' Market, then in 2007 moved on to the Logan Square Farmers' Market in Chicago. By 2009 we added the Wednesday night Andersonville Farmers' Market to our sales schedule. We discontinued the Sunday Logan Square market to concentrate on the Wednesday Andersonville market, CSA deliveries, and multiple Chicago restaurant deliveries that include Nightwood, Bite, and Coobah. Chefs are encouraged to contact us for specialty and weekly orders. Our seasonal produce can also be found at Green Grocer on Grand Avenue.
