About Us / Windermere Farms & Apiaries History: Windermere Farms & Apiaries is certifed organic by Quality Certification Services of Gainsville Florida since 2007. We are located in the Wolf RIver bluffs north of Interstate 40 and in the valley below the dam of Lake Windermere. We are on 17 acres with aproximately 5 in cultivation with the remaining in timber along the hills on either side of the valley. We are 2 minutes from Interstate 40 and the Austin Peay Hwy in a residential neighborhood. The farm entrance is between 3040 and 3060 Woodhills Dr. There is a small sign just off in the access area and you can drive into the field's parking area in dry weather at 3040 or park on the street. We do not have a farm market so it is best to call before coming over to make sure we are here to meet you but you are welcome to walk around and look things over.We irrigate with water captured from the run off from the hills into ponds and then pump what is needed to tanks on the ridges about 25 and 35 feet above the valley floor. Distribution is then gravity fed through tubing and T-Tape drip lines to crops as needed. Our first planting was American Bittersweet on 900 feet of trellis. It is used in decorating and is sold from September through October. The plants have been in the ground since 2003 and have produced cutting sprigs since 2006.We expanded into organic vegetables in 2005 after clearing the bottom land of trash trees and pushing the encroaching timber back (pictures capturing the events are archived on our web site) to the hillsides. In 2008 we had 2500 strawberry plants for picking berries and this year (2012) we have 8,000 plants in the ground. We have added Natchez thornless blackberries which will be ready in in about mid May or June.
